Life seems to be full of unexpected twists and turns. I have discovered this more than ever over the last 6-12 months. Just when you think you are settled in life it has a canny way of saying ‘hold on a minute…….’
Trying to get the ‘work-life balance’ that we hear about so often is harder than it sounds. We think it is about just freeing up maybe an hour a day to give us more time for ourselves but it’s more than that. We need the balance both physically and mentally, the 2 go very much hand in hand. Just short of plunging yourself in an ice bath Wim Hof style, mental peace I have found simply comes from being in a pleasant frame of mind in all that we do. We don’t need to be ecstatic about everything in our life but just to have a level sense of calm makes a huge difference.
Having dependents that rely on me for many aspects of their own young lives has made me realise more so what impact I have on them and others. I see this as part of my own ‘work’-life balance. Mentally supporting them, guiding them as best I can so that they grow into confident young people entering the big wide world is a challenge all by itself. Equally helping people find a role they are comfortable with and not just having a means to an end purpose is key for this balance. Partly the reason I find myself where I am. Taking the huge step to ‘give it a go’, ‘be my own boss’ and all the other cliches in setting up my own business/working for myself has brought about, it’s mainly brought out an odd sense of calmness. I enter a new decade shortly just to add to the worry and it’s a different path for me, one that has made me experience a range of emotions from scared, excited, anxious, you name it I’ve felt it lately! But one thing the last 12 months has shown me is that I can only give it a go and I need to pat myself on the back just for doing that!
As I continue to reach for that pleasant frame of mind, I hope to meet many of you looking for similar that I can hopefully be of use to you. Give it a shot, you never know what unexpected twist and turn may benefit you……
